A week-long course for 14-17 year olds to explore the non-performance roles in theatre, including marketing, box office, stage management and technical roles.
Theatre Royal is running its Work in Theatre course from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July, a week-long programme for 14 to 17-year-olds. It's designed to pull back the curtain on the parts of a theatre that the audience never sees, focusing on the non-performance roles that keep a show running rather than what happens on stage.
Industry professionals lead the week, and the sessions are built around workshops, talks and practical activities. The course covers a wide range of the theatre's inner workings: marketing and communications, the box office, front of house and customer service, and the stage and technical side, which brings together lighting, sound, wardrobe and stage management. There's also a look at management and administration, and creative learning. It's a good way to get a sense of how these different departments fit together to put on a production.

The course runs every day from Monday to Friday, 10:30 to 16:00, at the Theatre Royal on New Road, Brighton, BN1 1SD. The cost is £150 for the week.
