A concert by the family trio Who Owns the Snow, featuring three-part harmony folk/blues/world music and celebrating their debut album release.
Brighton is set to host a unique musical evening next month. On Friday, February 13, 2026, the family trio Who Owns the Snow will be performing at The Folklore Rooms, located at 12 North Street. The group is built around what is often described as 'blood harmony,' delivered through a 'saturnalia of three-part harmony' by the Rest family: Loretta (daughter), Rosie Brown (mother), and Bernd Rest (father). Their sound blends elements of Folk, Blues, and World music, creating something that feels both intimate and expansive.

The trio’s musical foundation is complex and layered. Loretta handles vocals, cello, guitar, and keyboards; Rosie, an experienced British songwriter, contributes vocals and keys; and Bernd, an Austrian guitarist and composer, provides vocals and guitar. Critics have frequently highlighted their ability to achieve a sound that is simultaneously 'fragile and solid,' drawing comparisons to artists as varied as This is the Kit, Radiohead, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Joan Armatrading. Their songwriting explores themes of nature, love, and subtly captures the underlying 'sense of presentiment of our age.' Beyond the trio’s work, Rosie and Bernd have also been busy working on a double album compilation to mark the 25th anniversary of their acclaimed first album, By The Blue.
This particular concert is significant for the group as it celebrates the launch of their self-titled debut album. It also marks a moment of transition for the family, as Loretta is scheduled to leave Brighton soon to study cello in Manchester. The evening kicks off at 19:30, and the supporting act is BEE & JACKRABBIT, a local chamber pop band. If you are planning to attend, tickets are available at £16.00 standard, with a concession rate of £7.00. The quality of the music is already well-established, having received strong reviews, including ★★★★ from Mojo and Q Magazine, and praise from The Independent calling their sound 'Ethereal… entrancing.' It promises to be a genuinely rich evening of live music right here in the city.
