Tubular Bells Live in Concert comes to the Brighton Dome on Monday 22 March 2027, as part of a UK tour presented by Senbla. It's a live celebration of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells trilogy, and the whole thing is led and arranged by Robin Smith, Oldfield's long-term collaborator. One thing to keep in mind from the start: Mike Oldfield himself won't be appearing at this event.
The set is built around the three albums that make up the trilogy, which spanned 27 years. The original Tubular Bells was written in 1971 and released in 1973; Tubular Bells II followed in 1992, and its filmed premiere from Edinburgh Castle remains one of the most viewed musical events ever; Tubular Bells III arrived in 1998, and its excerpt 'Far Above the Clouds' was featured in the 2012 London Olympic Opening Ceremony. In recent years, the trilogy performed live has become the gold standard for album revisit shows.
On the night, the ensemble plays Tubular Bells I in full, with extended sections of Tubular Bells II and III added in, and the hit single 'Moonlight Shadow' thrown in as well. It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one evening, taking the original record and then pulling in the later sequels and a standalone single.
