The Young Comedians Comedy Show

The Young Comedians take the stage at the Brighton Dome on Sunday 25 October, with the show running in the Studio Theatre. It's a night of firsts: a group of young comedians, all aged 11 to 16, stepping up to give their very first live performance. The whole thing is part of the Brighton Dome Comedy Festival, so it's one of the many comedy nights running across the city that autumn.

What you're seeing on the night is the result of a series of free comedy workshops run by Komedia Productions in partnership with the festival. Local comedian Tom Veryzer led the sessions, and they didn't just stick to one style of joke-telling. The workshops covered stand-up, improv and character comedy, alongside the more practical side of the craft: how material is developed, writing skills and building the confidence to actually get on stage. There was also a look at the business end of things — how to market a show and the behind-the-scenes roles that make a production happen. The show is the culmination of all that work, with the young comedians performing what they've learned.

It's a family-friendly one, and since it's a first performance for everyone on stage, it's as much about the debut as the comedy itself. The show is captioned, and under-14s need to be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £8, with £6 concessions, and Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival members save £2 on the full price. Doors open at 6.30pm, and the show starts at 7pm on Sunday 25 October in the Studio Theatre at the Brighton Dome, Church Street, BN1 1UE.
