A Halloween party featuring The Witchcraft And Vagrancy Act, musical curiosities, and a fancy-dress competition.
The Witchcraft and Vagrancy Act are taking over Komedia on Saturday 31 October for a Halloween party that leans into the darker side of folk. It's a night for the odd-folk and the musical curiosities, and the main feature is the act itself, which they describe as unearthing the sinister side of folk music and exposing the horrifying underbelly of traditional music through the sensibilities of dark cabaret, folk horror and the gothic.
On the night, they're drawing back the veil with Fae as Folk, an all-female bardic act that brings together folklore, ethereal harmonies and compelling instrumentation. It's the kind of thing that fits the date and the venue—folk music with the edges sharpened, played by a group that knows how to lean into the eerie side of the tradition.
It's not just the music, though. There's a Halloween fancy-dress competition as part of the evening, so it's a good excuse to turn up in costume. And if you're planning on having a few drinks, it pays to get there early: there's 20% off all drinks—bottles of wine excluded—for the first hour after the doors open.
