Auction of 30 large BookBench sculptures to raise funds for Amaze, with bidding online and in-person.
The Story Trail Auction takes over The Brighton Centre on Monday 30 November, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. It's the final chapter for The Story Trail, the public art installation that's had large BookBench sculptures on display across the city. All 30 of those sculptures are being put up for adoption, and this is the night they go.
If you've walked past them while out and about, you'll know what they are: oversized benches shaped like open books, each one a piece of public art. After their time on the streets, they're all being auctioned off, with bidding happening both online and in-person. The reserve price for each is expected to be set at £3,000, so you'll need a fair bit of space and a decent budget if you're planning to bring one home.
Every pound raised goes to Amaze, the Sussex charity that supports families with disabled children and young people. That's the whole point of the thing, so whether you're bidding for a sculpture or just coming along to see them all in one room, the money is heading to a local cause. The organisers are billing this as the final chance for the BookBenches to find forever homes, and they're suggesting buyers display them at their workplace or in their garden.
