Weekly new-material and open-mic comedy night with up to 15 five-minute slots from professional, semi-professional and amateur comics.
The Secret Comedy Club runs its Tuesday night at Artista in Brighton, with the next one on 20 October. It's a new-material and open-mic night, which means you're seeing comedy in the making rather than a polished hour. The format is fast-paced: up to 15 comics a night, each with a five-minute slot. That's a lot of different voices in one sitting, and because it's new material, you're hearing jokes as they're being worked on, not the versions that have already been smoothed over for a big show.
It's an open mic in the truest sense, so the bill mixes professional, semi-professional and amateur comics. The organisers describe it as the leading new-material and open-mic night on the South Coast, and they use these Tuesdays to scout talent for their weekend gigs and for the Brighton Fringe Festival. Because of that, it's not uncommon for well-known TV comics to drop by and test out new bits here before they go anywhere else. If you're performing, you can book a slot and get video and audio of your set for £5.
The night runs at Artista, 42 Brighton Square, BN1 1HD, and it's a 16+ event. There's a no-heckling policy in place to keep the atmosphere friendly, which is a good thing to know when you're watching people try out material that isn't quite finished yet. It's a Tuesday night, so it's a mid-week outing rather than a weekend one.

Doors open at 19:00 and the show starts at 20:00, running through to 22:30. Tickets are £6.50. This isn't a one-off, either: the Tuesday nights continue on 27 October, then 3, 10, 17, 24 November, and 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 December.
