Weekly comedy night at The Secret Comedy Club, a grassroots venue in Brighton known for its intimate atmosphere and no-heckling policy.
The Secret Comedy Club Fridays are running every Friday night at Artista in Brighton, with a long stretch of dates starting 31 July and continuing through to 23 October. It's a residency rather than a one-off, so if you miss one, there's another the following week. The nights run from 19:00 to 22:30, though you'll want to note that the later ones โ 9, 16 and 23 October โ finish a bit earlier, at 20:00.
Each night brings a new line-up, a different headliner and a new MC, so no two Fridays are the same. The club bills itself as Brighton's only grassroots comedy club running five nights a week and as the city's friendliest independent venue, and it's held onto that reputation โ the audience voted it Best Brighton Fringe Venue. The room is cosy and intimate, and they run a strict no-heckling policy, which puts it in a different bracket from some of the bigger, louder comedy rooms around town.
It's a 16+ room, and over the years it's drawn a long list of acts who've gone on to appear on Live at the Apollo. Dane Baptiste, the first black British act nominated for a BAFTA for stand-up, is one of them, alongside Zoe Lyons, Henning Wehn, Simon Evans and Adam Bloom. It's the kind of place that works as well for a casual night out as it does for someone who follows the circuit.
