A triple bill of Bharatanatyam dance by Seeta Patel, featuring her Olivier Award-nominated The Rite of Spring, followed by the solo piece Shree and a Q&A.
Seeta Patel brings her triple bill to the Brighton Dome on Thursday 18 March and Friday 19 March, both nights starting at 19:30. The evening is built around The Rite of Spring, the piece that earned her an Olivier Award nomination, which she's reimagined through the lens of Bharatanatyam. It's a fusion of Indian classical dance and Igor Stravinsky's orchestral score, and it's been described as vibrant, bold and exciting.
That ensemble piece is only the first part of the night. It's followed by Shree, a solo Bharatanatyam performance that traces Mother Earth's journey from creation to destruction. Patel presents her as the Divine Mother, exploring her power, her vulnerability and her enduring presence, before the piece culminates in a plea for balance and renewal. The night then closes with an intimate Q&A, where Patel speaks about the inspirations, the challenges and the lived experiences that sit behind her work.
