An intimate acoustic evening of songs from the Laurel Canyon music scene, performed by Paul Diello, Mike Bickers, Ry Byron and Lucy Pickering, with a disco in the bar until midnight.
The Music Of Laurel Canyon comes to Ironworks Studios on Friday 7 August, with the main set running from 8:00pm to 10:30pm. It's a night built around the songs of the Laurel Canyon scene, that loose collection of songwriters and musicians who gathered in the hills above Los Angeles in the late sixties and seventies. If you've spent any time with the records from that era, you'll recognise the names that come up: Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Eagles, and a few more. Those are the artists the night takes on, reimagined in an intimate acoustic setting.
Four performers — Paul Diello, Mike Bickers, Ry Byron and Lucy Pickering — handle the songs together, stripped-back and focused on close harmonies. The arrangements are acoustic, so the emphasis stays on the songwriting and the singing rather than the production. It's a way of hearing those songs that lets the melodies and the lyrics sit right at the front, close to the room.
When the main set finishes at 10:30pm, the night doesn't quite end there. A Laurel Canyon-inspired disco carries on in the bar until midnight, so you can stay on and keep the music going after the acoustic part is over.

Tickets are £16 for general admission, with an earlybird price of £14 if you book ahead. If you're coming with a group, there are tables for two at £35 and tables for four at £70. The venue is Ironworks Studios, 30 Cheapside, Brighton BN1 4GD.
