The Miserable Rich perform a rare show at The Hope & Ruin with support from the Fred Hills Trio.
The Miserable Rich are returning to the stage for a rare performance at The Hope & Ruin on Thursday, 2nd April 2026. Based in Brighton, the band has been active since 2007 and will be joined by the Fred Hills Trio, who are set to perform a jazz and folk-influenced opening set. The venue is located at 10-12 Queens Road, and tickets for the event are currently available through We Got Tickets. This show follows a two-year break from live performances for the group, marking a return to the local circuit where their music has long been a part of the city's cultural backdrop.

The band’s sound is built around cello and violin arrangements, a style that has defined their work since their formation. Their most recent studio album, Overcome, was released on 2nd February 2024, ending a decade-long hiatus. The album consists of 12 tracks and explores themes of trauma and friendship, and it is currently available in vinyl, CD, and digital formats. In the lead-up to this spring, the band has also been releasing a series of remixes of their earlier tracks, including 'Pisshead' and 'Hungover', as part of a new compilation titled Mixed Up Over Time. Lead singer James recently provided some context on these tracks, explaining that 'Pisshead', written around 2004, was inspired by the people of St James' Street rather than his own life. He also noted that the alternate version of 'Hungover' is a personal favourite, despite it not receiving a remix for this latest collection.
For those familiar with the band's history, this performance at The Hope & Ruin offers a chance to hear both the newer material from Overcome and these revisited versions of their earlier catalogue. The combination of their string-led indie pop and the Fred Hills Trio’s jazz-folk approach provides a specific musical context for the evening. The event reflects the band's ongoing connection to Brighton, a city they have been associated with throughout their career. It is a straightforward opportunity to see the group perform live as they continue to navigate their return to the stage following the release of their latest record.
