Interactive art installation by Alison Larkman raising awareness of chronic illness, part of the 'I Would Be Here If I Could' project.
The Mirrorbox is coming to Jubilee Square on 17 and 18 October, as part of the I Would Be Here If I Could project. It's an interactive sculpture made of two-way mirrored acrylic, created by artist Alison Larkman, who lives with life-altering ME. The piece is part of what's described as the largest collaborative art project in the UK, co-created with people living with ME and Long Covid.
The whole thing started with a single question: Where would you be if you could? Each stop on its nationwide journey is chosen by someone house- or bed-bound who can no longer reach the place they love. When you step inside the box, you disappear from view and hear that person's audio message. Before you leave, you can leave a digital postcard in response. It's a small, quiet exchange between someone who can't get out and someone who can.

This 2026 tour follows a 2025 pilot that took the piece to Bristol and to the summit of Glastonbury Tor. It's delivered by Invisible Visible CIC with funding from Arts Council England. The Mirrorbox will be in Jubilee Square on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October.
