The folk-punk band The Men They Couldn't Hang perform live at Komedia in Brighton.
The Men They Couldn't Hang are returning to Brighton on 8 November 2026 for a performance at Komedia. Formed in 1984 within the Shepherd's Bush squatting and busking scene, the band has maintained a consistent presence in the folk-punk genre for four decades. They gained early recognition through the support of John Peel and their 1984 debut single, a version of 'Green Fields of France'. Over the years, they have toured internationally and performed at festivals such as Glastonbury and Roskilde. Following the death of Stefan Cush during the pandemic, the group has continued to perform and is currently working towards a new album release in 2026.

Their setlists typically draw from a catalogue that includes albums like 'Night of a Thousand Candles', 'The Defiant', and 'Cockahoop'. The band’s sound is characterised by a mix of folk roots and punk energy, often featuring songs like 'Ghosts of Cable Street'. Having celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2024, the current iteration of the band continues to play live shows that reflect their long-standing approach to contemporary folk music. For those familiar with the North Laine area, the venue is a short walk from Brighton station, making it a central spot for this type of live music event.
