Award-winning improvisers The Maydays use anonymous audience secrets and confessions to inspire spontaneous songs, sketches, and long-form stories in this hilarious and unscripted comedy show.
If you're looking for something genuinely unique and a bit cheeky in Brighton, you should check out The Maydays' show, Confessions!. This award-winning British company, often called Brighton legends, has a reputation for delivering completely unscripted, imaginative comedy. The premise is simple but brilliant: the entire show is inspired by anonymous secrets, lies, and tales of guilt that the audience writes down before the lights go up. It’s essentially turning a game of truth or dare into anarchic improvised comedy, focusing on those themes of secrets, lies, and guilt that we all carry around. Critics have described the result as a masterful conjuring of nonsense, full of satisfying surprises.

The improvisers take these private submissions and transform them into spontaneous songs, sketches, and full-blown stories right there on the spot. The structure is split into two halves: the first half uses the confessions to fuel shorter scenes, leading up to a longer, format story in the second half. This project has been around for a while; it even had a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2013 to take it up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. You can catch this daring improv comedy at Komedia Brighton, specifically in the Komedia Studio, which is located at 44–47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN. Seating in the Studio is unreserved, so it’s worth getting there on time.
If you plan on going, remember that this is definitely an adult night out, with a minimum age requirement of 16+. You can find them scheduled for February 6th, April 3rd, June 5th, September 4th, October 2nd, and December 4th. Tickets are reasonably priced, costing £12.00 for a standard entry or £10.00 if you qualify for a concession. Sometimes the event is billed as 'The Maydays: Confessions! & Guest Improv Superstars,' so keep an eye out for that when you look up the dates.
