A fast-paced comic reimagining of the Sherlock Holmes classic with mystery and physical comedy, featuring theatrical mayhem and ridiculous disguises.
The Hound of the Baskervilles runs at Brighton Little Theatre from Saturday 31 July to Sunday 7 August, as part of the venue's 2027 season. It's a comic reimagining of the Sherlock Holmes classic, and it leans into physical comedy and theatrical mayhem rather than playing it as a straight mystery. The stage is set with a moor thick with mist, a cursed Baskerville family and a hound lurking in the darkness, and the plot is packed with suspicious characters, ridiculous disguises and things going spectacularly wrong. It's a play by Alan Parker, with words and music by Paul Williams.
If you know the original story, you've got the bones of it: the desolate moor, the family curse and the legendary dog. This version takes those elements and runs with them, trading the slow burn of a detective novel for a fast-paced, physical approach. The production promises thrills, spills and plenty of laughs, and possibly a very badly behaved dog. It's the kind of show that works as much for people who love the Holmes books as for those who've never read a page and just want a funny night out.
