An early evening joint concert featuring the Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra and the Brighton Guitar Group, conducted by Lindsay Stoner and Jon Rattenbury.
The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra and the Brighton Guitar Group are playing together at St George's Church on Saturday 24 October, starting at 18:00. It's an early evening concert, so you'll be out well before the night really gets going.
The Fretful Federation is Brighton's own mandolin orchestra, and they're currently celebrating thirty years of making music. This is their first time working with Jon Rattenbury's ensemble, the Brighton Guitar Group, and the two groups will play both separately and together throughout the evening. The programme is new, put together for this joint outing, and the repertoire ranges across an eclectic selection of music from different centuries, including new interpretations of contemporary pieces. You'll hear the mandolins and guitars on their own before they come together for the shared parts of the set.
Lindsay Stoner and Jon Rattenbury are conducting. The Fretful Federation has been a Brighton fixture for three decades, and this marks the first time they've shared a stage with Rattenbury's group, so the whole thing is a bit of a first for both. Refreshments will be available at the venue, which is handy if you want to linger after the music finishes.
