A monthly reggae dance party at Komedia featuring the local duo The Tribulizations, with music spanning reggae, roots, ska, rocksteady and lovers rock.
The Brighton Moon-Hop is back at Komedia on Friday 30 October, the venue's new monthly reggae dance party. It's held in the Studio room, and the whole thing is presented by The Tribulizations, the local reggae vocal duo who run it. If you've been around the Brighton scene for a while, you'll know them as a mainstay of the city's reggae community, and this is their night to steer.
The music covers a fair bit of ground. It's not just one sound, but a mix of reggae, roots, ska, rocksteady and lovers rock, so the set moves from the heavier, bass-led roots side of things through to the upbeat skank of ska and the smoother, romantic side of lovers rock. It's a dance party, not a seated concert, and the Studio room is built for that — a dedicated space within the venue where the focus is on the dancefloor rather than a stage. The night is for ages 18 and over.
Komedia itself sits in the heart of the North Laine, and it's been the city's live entertainment venue for just under 30 years, so it's a familiar spot for anyone who spends their weekends out in town. The Moon-Hop is one of its newer additions, a monthly club night that brings a specific sound to the Studio room rather than the main stage.

Doors open at 11:00 pm, and tickets are £5.00 guide price. With the late start and the 18+ entry, it's a proper night out rather than an early evening one, and the music runs across the full spectrum of reggae and its offshoots.
