Brighton's new reggae dance party monthly club night held in The Studio, featuring local reggae vocal duo The Tribulizations.
The Brighton Moon-Hop is Brighton's new reggae dance party, a monthly club night held in The Studio at Komedia. The music runs across reggae, roots, ska, rocksteady and lovers rock, and it's presented by local reggae vocal duo The Tribulizations. The first date is Saturday 26 September, with doors opening at 11:00 pm โ so it's a late one, and it's standing only, ages 18+.
It's a monthly night, so if you can't make the first, there are more to follow: Friday 30 October and Saturday 28 November. The music covers a fair bit of ground, from the slower, romantic side of lovers rock to the upbeat, off-beat rhythms of ska and the deeper, bass-heavy roots and rocksteady that sit at the heart of it. The Tribulizations are the ones behind the decks, and they're a local duo, so this is a Brighton-run night for the city's reggae crowd.
The Studio is inside Komedia, at 44-47 Gardner Street in the North Laine, a few minutes' walk from Brighton Station. Komedia has been the city's premier live entertainment venue for just under 30 years, and one regular attendee describes it as a Brighton institution. It's right in the middle of the lanes, so it's easy enough to get to whether you're coming from the station or from around town.
