Monthly reggae dance party featuring roots, ska, rocksteady and lovers rock, presented by The Tribulizations.
The Brighton Moon-Hop is back at Komedia on Saturday 8 August, and it's a monthly one, so this is just the first of a few dates running through the autumn. It's held in The Studio, which is the smaller, more intimate space inside the main venue, and it's presented by The Tribulizations, the local reggae vocal duo who run the night.
They describe it as a reggae dance party, and the music they're spinning covers a fair bit of ground. It's not just one sound: they've got roots, ska, rocksteady and lovers rock all in the mix. If you're not entirely sure what that means in practice, it's the difference between the slower, bass-heavy roots and the upbeat, danceable ska, with the smoother lovers rock sitting somewhere in between. It's a broad enough spread that you can dance to it regardless of where your taste in reggae lands.
Because it's a monthly club night, it's less of a one-off gig and more of a regular thing to drop into. After the 8 August date, they're back on 26 September, 30 October and 28 November, so if you miss this one, there are three more lined up before the year is out. The Studio is tucked away at 44-47 Gardner Street, BN1 1UN, right in the heart of the city.

Entry is £5.00, and the 8 August night kicks off at 21:00. The later dates on 26 September, 30 October and 28 November all start at 23:00, so it's a bit more of a late-night affair as the series goes on.
