A musical celebration of queer and trans liberation reimagining Bronski Beat's debut album with a live house band.
On Saturday, 2nd May 2026, the Concert Hall at Brighton Dome will host The Age of Consent, a performance returning to the city by popular demand after its initial creation in 2024. The show is built around a complete reimagining of Bronski Beat’s seminal debut album, serving as both a musical exploration and an unapologetic portrait of radical queerness in 1980s Britain. Rather than a standard tribute concert, the evening is designed as a collective call to action for queer and trans liberation, blending the historical weight of the original 1984 record with contemporary political and social themes.

The musical backbone of the night is provided by The Chateau Collective, a queer house band formed specifically to interpret this material. They have developed new arrangements of the album’s tracks, which they will perform alongside a curated lineup of contemporary queer and trans artists. Because the event is being held in a standing format, the space in the Concert Hall will function more like a communal live music venue than a traditional seated theatre. This choice of format is intended to match the energy of the house band and the specific history of the music being celebrated.
The performance is scheduled to begin at 20:15, with doors opening at 19:30 for those arriving early. Tickets are available at three price points: £25, £27.50, and £32.50. It is worth keeping in mind that a £3.50 transaction fee applies to all phone and online bookings, though this fee is waived for members of the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival. This production is a joint presentation by The Chateau and Southbank Centre. While the event is open to a broad audience, the organisers have specified that anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the evening.
