Susie Dent returns with a brand-new tour exploring facts and stories from the wonderful world of words.
If you have ever found yourself wondering about the origins of the strange slang teenagers use today, or why we call a group of crows a 'murder', you might be interested in the upcoming show at the Brighton Dome. Susie Dent, who many will recognise from her long-standing role on Countdown, is bringing her new tour, Word Perfect, to the Corn Exchange on 6 December 2026. It is a show entirely dedicated to the quirks, histories, and evolution of the English language, following on from her previous tour, The Secret Life of Words.

This isn't a lecture in the traditional sense, but rather a deep dive into the stories behind the words we use every day. Dent explores everything from the evolution of regional dialects to the rapid changes in language brought about by the internet and the younger generations. It is a chance to hear the stories behind the vocabulary that shapes our daily conversations, presented in a format that travels across the country throughout 2026.
For those planning to attend, the event is scheduled for a Sunday afternoon. Doors at the Brighton Dome open at 13:15, with the show starting promptly at 14:00. It is expected to wrap up around 16:00. Tickets are priced at £34.50. It is worth noting that while the event is open to the general public, there is a policy in place regarding younger attendees: anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. It is a straightforward afternoon for anyone with an interest in linguistics or just a curiosity about why we speak the way we do.
