The collective Steam Down headlines an evening of improvised jazz and soul music as part of the Youth Curated Weekend at Brighton Festival 2026.
If you are looking for something to do this coming bank holiday, the Brighton Festival 2026 has a specific event on Monday, 25 May, that might be worth noting. The collective Steam Down is headlining an evening at the Brighton Dome Studio Theatre, starting at 19:00. This performance is part of a programme called 'We, Generate', which has been curated by the 'Future Creative Leaders' from the organisation Lighthouse. It is essentially an evening focused on improvised music, blending elements of jazz and soul, and it is framed as an intergenerational music-making session.

Beyond the music itself, the venue is doing something a bit different with the space. The theatre lobby is being transformed into a youth art gallery for the night, showcasing work created during workshops with 'Art in Mind'. It gives the evening a bit more of a community-focused feel, rather than just a standard concert setup. The event is standing-only, so keep that in mind if you prefer to have a seat for the duration of a performance.
Regarding the practical side of things, the event is open to anyone aged 14 and over. If you are planning to go with anyone under 16, they will need to be accompanied by an adult, and they will be given a wristband or sticker when you go through the access control. Tickets are priced at £10 for the general public, though there is a reduced rate of £5 for anyone under 30. There is also a £3.50 booking fee per order, unless you happen to be a member of the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, in which case that fee is waived.
