STATUS FLO: Men's Mental Health Awareness Month

AFLO. the poet hosts another STATUS FLO night at the Brighton Dome on Monday 2 November, this one part of Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. She'll be joined by Kareem Parkins-Brown, and the whole thing runs in the Studio Theatre.

If you've never been, STATUS FLO is the Dome's regular spoken word night, and AFLO. is the one who keeps it running. She's an award-winning Brighton-based poet, activist and academic who writes about racism and mental health, drawing on her own lived experience. She was previously an in-house artist at the Dome, so she knows the place well. Each night pairs award-winning poets with the city's freshest local voices and special guests from across the UK, and this special falls within Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.

There's more to it than just watching, too. During the interval, the audience is invited to write their own poems using three prompt words chosen collectively and inspired by the poems heard that evening. A handful of challengers are then selected to perform theirs at the end of the night. Those poems go into 'The Archive', the venue's space for audience submissions, where they can be typed, photographed or filmed and left anonymous. It's a chilled performance, age 14+.

Doors open at 7.15pm, and the night starts at 8pm. Tickets are £14.50, with £12.00 concessions and a limited £7.00 low-income concession.
