Stand or Fall

Stand or Fall opened at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery on 15 August, a new exhibition marking 125 years of Brighton & Hove Albion. It's got its own brand-new gallery inside the museum, so it's not just a few cases tucked into a corner—it's a proper space dedicated to the club's history.

The centrepiece is a meticulously constructed model that blends elements of the club's former grounds: the Goldstone Ground, Withdean Stadium, and the American Express Stadium. It doesn't just sit there, either; it recreates miniature moments of action, like Bobby Zamora's goal against Halifax Town, Stuart Storer's last goal at the Goldstone, and Solly March's strike that won promotion to the Premier League. Around it, you'll find footage of legendary goals, memorabilia, fanzines, and an interactive quiz to keep things moving.

But the fans are the real heart of the show. A good chunk of the exhibition recounts how supporters saved the club when it was at risk in the 1990s, through protests, pitch invasions, marches, a top-20 chart hit, and even a city-wide referendum. It frames football as a story of community, loyalty, and collective spirit, rather than just a list of results and trophies. If you've lived through those years, it'll be a trip down memory lane; if you're newer to the club, it's a chance to see how it survived.
