Brighton's biggest and oldest monthly Alternative 80s club night, featuring Goth, Post-Punk, New Wave, and Alternative Rock classics.
The monthly fixture Spellbound – The Alternative 80s Night is back at the Komedia Studio Bar on Saturday, March 21, 2026. This event has been a consistent part of the Brighton scene for 16 years, establishing itself as the city's longest-running alternative 80s club night. It takes place in the more intimate setting of the Studio Bar, located at 44-47 Gardner Street. If you’re looking for a night that skips the usual pop hits, Spellbound describes itself as the 80s club night for people who generally dislike 80s nights, focusing instead on the darker, more angular side of the decade.

The music policy is strictly focused on the 1979-1989 era, covering Goth, Post-Punk, New Romantic, New Wave, and Alternative Rock, alongside Synth and Ska classics. You can expect to hear tracks from foundational bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Bauhaus, Joy Division, and Siouxsie & The Banshees, among many others. The atmosphere is set up as a standing club night, complete with smoke machines and visual effects designed to recreate the feel of an alternative 80s venue. Guiding the music selection are resident DJs SIMON PRICE (Stay Beautiful) and JAYNEY BLAMBLAM (Total Blam Blam).
For those planning to attend, the doors open at 9:00 pm (21:00 hours). Spellbound is an 18+ event, attracting a diverse crowd—a mix of adults who experienced the era the first time around and younger attendees discovering the music anew. While tickets are required for entry, the standard guide price is £7.00. It is worth noting that the Studio Bar has a limited capacity, which for special events has been noted around 150 people, so planning ahead is advisable.
If you miss the March date, Spellbound runs monthly, typically on the third Saturday. Looking ahead, the club has several themed nights planned, including a major celebration on Saturday, April 18, 2026, for the club’s Seventeenth Birthday Party Special, confirming its status as a reliable fixture in the local calendar.
