Speedial, Cordelia Gartside, Rhiannon Ruthven and Hitman Sheela are all on the bill at The Hope & Ruin on Friday 24 July. It's a Hidden Herd Presents night, and that's exactly what it is: a music discovery night that puts the spotlight on emerging artists, ones-to-watch and hidden gems. If you've been following the club, you'll know the format — a few different acts on one bill, so you can hear a fair spread of new music in one go.
Speedial are a four-piece alternative band from London, launched at the end of 2022. They describe their sound as a cinematic blend of melodic post-rock, and that cinematic side comes through in the saxophone, lush harmonies and expansive orchestration they build into their songs. Cordelia Gartside writes her own material, drawing on Radiohead, Fiona Apple, Big Thief and Mitski; her self-released singles have picked up airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Music Introducing.
Rhiannon Ruthven is a Brighton-based artist whose work moves between ambient folk, post-rock and spoken word, and has been drawing attention here in the city. Hitman Sheela is a Brighton quartet led by Katie Prescott, who was previously the lead singer and guitarist of Nottingham's BBC Music Introducing-approved band Swallowtail.

Between the four of them, you've got post-rock, ambient folk, spoken word and a singer-songwriter set, so there's a fair bit of ground covered across the night. Tickets are £11.00, and the whole thing takes place at The Hope & Ruin, 10-12 Queens Road, BN1 3WA, on Friday 24 July.
