A fun and friendly cricket session for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, led by a coach from Sussex Cricket in a relaxed environment.
Special Olympics Cricket is running at Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre on Wednesday 22 July and Wednesday 29 July, both sessions starting at 13:30. It's a friendly cricket session for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, led by a coach from Sussex Cricket who teaches the basics of the game in a relaxed environment.
The focus is on the fundamentals: batting, bowling, and fielding, all broken down so anyone can pick them up, regardless of whether they've ever held a bat before. Because it's a relaxed setting, there's no pressure to get everything right first time—it's more about getting stuck in and having a go than worrying about the score. The sessions are designed to be inclusive and accessible, so the emphasis stays on the enjoyment of the game rather than the competition.
If you're coming along, there's one practical thing to keep in mind: if you need one-to-one support, you'll need to bring a parent or carer with you. Beyond that, it's just about turning up and getting involved. The sessions run over two consecutive Wednesdays, so if you can make both, you'll get a bit more time to find your feet with the basics.
