Weekly adapted cricket sessions for adults with learning disabilities and autism, led by a professional Sussex Cricket coach in a relaxed environment.
The Special Olympics Cricket sessions are continuing their run at the Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre throughout March. These weekly gatherings are part of a long-term programme that started back in October, aimed at providing a consistent sporting outlet for adults with learning disabilities and autism. The initiative is a collaboration between the Grace Eyre Foundation and Sussex Cricket, which means the sessions are led by a professional coach who understands how to adapt the game for different ability levels. The focus is on teaching the fundamental concepts of cricket in a way that is easy to follow, ensuring the atmosphere remains relaxed rather than competitive.

If you are planning the month ahead, the sessions are scheduled for every Wednesday: the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th of March. They occupy a mid-afternoon slot from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, which fits into the regular weekly routine established by the organisers. Because the programme is designed to be inclusive, there is no requirement for participants to have any prior experience with the sport. The idea is simply to get involved with the drills and basic gameplay at a pace that suits the individual, all under the guidance of the Sussex Cricket staff who bring the technical knowledge to the leisure centre’s sports hall.
Located on Moulsecoomb Way in Brighton (BN2 4PB), the venue is well-known locally and provides the necessary space for indoor cricket. Each session costs £5.00 per person. One important detail for those planning to attend is the support policy; the organisers require that any participant who needs 1-1 assistance must bring a parent or carer along with them. This ensures that everyone has the necessary support while the coach focuses on the group activity. With the programme set to continue until the end of April, these March sessions offer a steady opportunity for regular exercise and social interaction through a structured sport.
