A fun and friendly weekly cricket session for adults with learning disabilities and autism, run by Grace Eyre in partnership with Special Olympics Great Britain.
Special Olympics Cricket is running at Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre on Wednesday 14 October, with a second session following on Wednesday 21 October. Both run from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and it's an indoor session, so you're sorted regardless of the weather. The whole thing is run by Grace Eyre in partnership with Special Olympics Great Britain, and it's aimed at adults with learning disabilities and autism.
On the pitch, a coach from Sussex Cricket takes the lead. They'll be teaching the basics of the game in a relaxed environment, and the hour is split between skill work and small, friendly games. Because it's all about getting stuck in rather than competing, you don't need any prior experience to join in. If you've never held a bat or bowled a ball in your life, you'll be in good company.
It's part of Grace Eyre's wider autumn sports programme, which also includes football and swimming at safe and accessible locations across Bognor Regis, Brighton & Hove and Eastbourne. This cricket session sits alongside those, so it's one of several ways to get active this season. One practical point to keep in mind: anyone requiring support must be accompanied by a parent or carer, as no personal care is provided on site.
