The programme for this edition covers a wide spectrum of musical culture. The discussions will delve into personal histories, the significance of obscure bands, the dynamics of fan communities, and the broader relationship between punk, pop, and social change. It is intended to be a space where writers, musicians, artists, superfans, photographers, and filmmakers can share their experiences and insights into these scenes.
The guest speakers for this session are Bev Lee Harling and Laura Alice Haworth. Bev Lee Harling is a multi-genre vocalist, violinist, and composer who works across a diverse range of disciplines, including performance, theatre, dance, film, and opera. Her musical approach is distinct, as she integrates classical, folk, and jazz influences with found sounds. Her latest album, Ploughing The Salt Sea, is a particularly interesting project; it features field recordings taken from the beach at Rock-a-Nore and interviews conducted in Hastings Old Town, all released in a postcard format.
Alongside her is Laura Alice Haworth, who is the leader of KNM. Based in Brighton, KNM functions as a record label, collective, and promotion company. The group is explicitly dedicated to promoting 'femme punk', 'babecore', and 'queer fury', and Haworth’s work with the collective is central to their mission of supporting these specific scenes.
The event begins at 19:30. Tickets are £5.00. While the current line-up is confirmed, the organisers have noted that there is more to be announced, so the final programme may include additional guests.
