Live gig by Brighton indie pop and shoegaze band Soot Sprite at The Hope & Ruin.
Soot Sprite are playing The Hope & Ruin on Friday 27 November. They're a Brighton-based four-piece, so this is a local night for them, and they'll be playing in the city they call home.
If you haven't come across them before, they work in indie pop and shoegaze, and they're a local outfit through and through. Among the members are Elise Cook, Sam Cother and Sean Mariner, and their sound sits in the indie and shoegaze tradition of the south of England. They describe their songs as being equal parts dream and drive, and that's a fair way to put it: there's the hazy, atmospheric side of shoegaze on one hand and the more direct, driving energy of indie pop on the other, and the two pull in opposite directions across the set. It's that balance between the drift and the drive that gives the music its shape.

Because they're based here, this is one of those gigs that feels like a proper local outing rather than a stop on a touring circuit. The Hope & Ruin is a well-known spot for live music in the city, and having a Brighton band playing there makes it a straightforward one to get to. Tickets are £11.50, and the show is on Friday 27 November.
