Sons Of Sevilla

Sons Of Sevilla play The Hope & Ruin on Friday 2 October, presented by Columbo Music. It's a duo made up of brothers Henry and Reuben Smith, originally from Featherstone in the North of England, and the set will be just the two of them.

They started back in 2020 during lockdown, and the way it happened was pretty chance: Henry visited Reuben at his home studio to play guitar, and they wrote a couple of songs that day. From there, they spent the rest of the summer writing and recording every single day. Since then, they've moved to Spain, splitting their time between the mountains of Andalusia and their birthplace. The Seville connection goes back to childhood, when the family visited every summer, and Reuben played football for Sevilla in his early adult years.

Their debut long player came out on Ubiquity Records, with Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas producing and performing on two of the tracks. The follow-up album brings in Geoff Mann — son of Herbie Mann — on drums, percussion and flute, alongside Marcos Garcia, also known as Chico Mann, on guitar and bass. Between the two records, there's a fair bit of ground to cover, so the set should pull from both the early songs and the newer material.

The Hope & Ruin is a 150-capacity space above a busy pub on Queens Road, and it hosts live shows from local and international artists. The gig starts at 20:00 on Friday 2 October, so you've got the pub downstairs to settle into before the music kicks off.
