Six by Seven with Paradise 9

Six by Seven are back at The Hope & Ruin on Friday 26 March, their first Brighton gig since 2004. They're an English indie rock band formed in Nottingham in the early nineties, led by singer, guitarist and songwriter Chris Olley. Their sound pulls from space rock, shoegaze, psychedelia and post-rock, and it's a good way to describe what they've been doing since the start.

They first made a name for themselves with the self-released 1997 single European Me, which sold out in a week and earned them a Beggars Banquet deal. The label put out their debut album, The Things We Make, in the spring of 1998, followed by The Closer You Get in 2000, produced by John Leckie. Over the years they recorded five Peel sessions, toured with Ash, Manic Street Preachers, The Dandy Warhols and Placebo, and appeared on BBC Later with Jools Holland in 1998. This is their first Brighton show in over twenty years, so it's been a while since they've played the city.

Support comes from Paradise 9, a Brighton-based psychedelia and space-rock four-piece formed in 1997 by Gregg McKella. Their latest album, Science Fiction Reality, came out in April 2021, and their sound sits in the same space rock and psych territory as Six by Seven, so the two acts fit together on the same bill.

The gig is at The Hope & Ruin, 10-12 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 3WA, on Friday 26 March, starting at 20:00. Tickets are £22.00 guide price.
