Shovel Dance Collective play Komedia on Sunday 14 March, with doors opening at 7:00 pm. The night is presented by Love Thy Neighbour, and the collective will be joined by support.
There are nine members to the group, all united by a passion for the beauty, force and political charge of traditional music. Their practice has emerged as a patchwork of fragments: traditional material sewn together and embroidered with their own group improvisations, explorations of field recordings and concrète-style tape manipulation. It's folk music from the British Isles, Ireland and beyond, blending drone, improvisation and metal.
Their arrangements emphasise the inviting, hopeful and human qualities of folk, channeling the joy and sadness held in these collaboratively shaped words and melodies, while threading a deep sense of how traditional music carries the voices of those who have gone before. It's a sound that looks back to traditional sources and pulls them forward into something new.

The show takes place in Komedia's basement room, with unreserved cabaret seating, so you'll be close to the stage. It's recommended for ages 14 and over, with under-16s accompanying by an adult. Doors are at 7:00 pm on Sunday 14 March.
