A dance production featuring classical Chinese dance, scenographical effects and orchestral works, performed by the Shen Yun company at the Brighton Centre.
Shen Yun is coming to the Brighton Centre for a short run of four shows in early January, starting Sunday 3 January 2027. It's a dance production built around classical Chinese dance, with a live orchestra and digital backdrops that change as the show goes along.
Founded in New York in 2006, the company describes its mission as reviving classical Chinese dance traditions and presenting them to international audiences. They stage an entirely new production every year, put together from short narrative dance pieces, solo vocalists, and instrumentalists. The digital backdrops act as a moving set, shifting behind the dancers to change the scene. The music is performed live by an orchestra that pairs a Western string section with traditional Chinese instruments like the erhu and the pipa, so you'll hear both the strings and the traditional sounds together throughout the performance.
Shen Yun now tours several companies at once, playing theatres and arenas across Europe, North America, and Asia each season. The Brighton run is promoted by Shen Yun UK.
