SHELF: The Kids Show 2

Rachel and Ruby are back at the Brighton Dome with SHELF: The Kids Show 2, a family-friendly sketch show that follows their first award-winning run. The duo won Best Kids' Show at the 2023 Leicester Comedy Festival / UK Kids' Comedy Festival, and they've performed at the Southbank Centre, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Girl Guides UK, among other venues. They describe this one as double the funny, double the silly and double the sketch, pitched at children, their adults and any ghosts or pigeons that happen to wander in.

The show is a sketch show in the truest sense: a series of short, fast-paced scenes rather than one long story. It's built for families to watch together, so you'll find it works as well for the kids as it does for the grown-ups sitting beside them. The 'double' in the description is their way of saying they're upping the ante from the first show, with more sketches and a bit more of the same silly energy that won them the award in Leicester.

It's playing at the Brighton Dome, a Grade I listed multi-arts venue that's been part of the city since 1803. It started as the Prince Regent's Royal Stables and Riding House, was bought by the town in 1850 and spent time as cavalry barracks before becoming a concert venue and assembly hall in 1867. The art deco refit, overseen by architect Robert Atkinson in 1934/35, is what you'll recognise today. Over the years, the room has hosted Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and the Eurovision Song Contest, including the 1974 contest won by ABBA with 'Waterloo'.

SHELF: The Kids Show 2 is scheduled for 25 January, 16 February and 16 March 2027, so there are three dates to choose from if you're planning a family outing. It's a sketch show for children and their adults, with the Dome as the backdrop.
