DJ set by dance music pioneer Sasha at Concorde 2 on Madeira Drive.
Sasha is playing Concorde 2 on Friday 5 February, a solo DJ set from one of the names that helped shape dance music over the last few decades. Born Alexander Coe in North Wales in 1969, he started out in the late '80s as a club DJ at Shelly's, where he built his following by reworking the popular sounds of the day. From there, the Haçienda and Renaissance made him a national and then a global name, and he became one of the first 'superstar DJs' capable of selling out venues like Fabric, Twilo and the Haçienda on his own name alone. His sets were known for populist fusions of house, techno and trance.
For many, the name is tied to his partnership with English DJ John Digweed as Sasha + Digweed, which produced the Northern Exposure mix series and the best-selling Renaissance Mix Collection part 1. His solo Global Underground CDs, San Francisco and Ibiza, are still regarded as progressive house classics, and in 2002 he released his first solo LP, Airdrawndagger. In 2005, he began moving away from records and CDs in favour of Ableton Live and a custom controller he helped design.
