A tribute concert featuring Sarah Jayne as Dolly Parton and Andy Crust as Kenny Rogers, celebrating what would have been Dolly Parton's 81st birthday.
Sarah Jayne and Andy Crust bring their Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers tribute to Concorde 2 on Tuesday 19 January, billed as 'Dolly Day'. It's a double-bill that runs through the best-known songs from both artists, and the two of them are the only impersonators in the world endorsed by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers themselves. Rogers described them as 'Europe's leading Dolly & Kenny impersonators'.
Sarah Jayne takes the Dolly role, and the set covers the songs most people know by heart: '9 to 5', 'Jolene', 'I Will Always Love You' and 'Coat of Many Colours'. She performs in replica costumes, so it's as much about the look as the voice. Andy Crust steps in as Kenny Rogers, bringing his own set of classics to the night, and the two come together for the duets they recorded as a pair, with 'Islands in the Stream' being the one most people will recognise. The whole thing is staged to celebrate what would have been Dolly Parton's 81st birthday.
There's a bit more to the evening than just the two of them on stage. DJ Claire Fuller opens the night with a country warm-up set, so the room is already in the right mood before the main act starts. And there's a charitable side to it: £1 from every ticket goes to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which the Hove charity the Focus Foundation matches to make it £2 per ticket. It's a nice way to have your ticket money go somewhere useful while you're out.
