A concert of South Asian classical music featuring tabla virtuoso Sanju Sahai and bansuri flautist Jason Kalidas at the Brighton Dome.
If you are looking for something a bit different to do in Brighton this autumn, The Mehfil Space is bringing a South Asian classical music performance to the Studio Theatre at the Brighton Dome on October 3rd, 2026. It is a chance to see Sanju Sahai and Jason Kalidas perform together in an intimate setting, which feels like a good fit for the acoustics of the Studio Theatre.

Sanju Sahai, who is also known as Vishnu, comes from a long line of musicians; he is a sixth-generation tabla player and a descendant of Pandit Ram Sahai, the founder of the Benares Gharana. Having trained under Pandit Sharda Sahai and performed at venues like the Royal Albert Hall, his background is quite extensive. He will be joined by Jason Kalidas, a bansuri flautist and percussionist. Kalidas studied Hindustani classical music with the Mehta family and Manoj Dubey, and his approach to performance focuses on the concept of Raasa, which is essentially about exploring emotional resonance through music.
The logistics for the evening are straightforward. Doors open at 19:00, and the music starts at 19:45. There is a 20-minute interval scheduled for 20:45, and the whole event is expected to wrap up by 22:00. It is worth noting for anyone planning to attend that the venue has a policy where those under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Regarding tickets, the standard price is £24, with a concession rate of £22 available. If you happen to be a member of the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, there is a £2 discount on the full-price tickets. It is a fairly specific type of event, but if you have an interest in classical South Asian music or just want to see some skilled musicians in a local venue, it is a clear-cut option for a Saturday night in October.
