Spoken word show by Sam Browne exploring masculinity and mental health, with humour and hope.
Sam Browne brings his spoken word show You'll Miss the Sunset to the Komedia Studio on Sunday 22 November. It's a one-man show that sits right at the intersection of poetry and stand-up, and it's built around the things Browne has made a career of talking about: mental health, masculinity, and the messy bits in between.
Browne is a spoken word poet from Southend, Essex, who started out wanting to be a stand-up comedian until he realised all his jokes rhymed and were a bit sad, so he pivoted to poetry instead. Since then, he's built an online following of over 100,000 Instagram followers and tens of millions of views, won awards for his activism and numerous poetry slams, and appeared in the BBC documentary Eastenders investigates the Manosphere and in the Guardian. He writes about masculinity, VAWG, and his own big feelings, and he's known for a chaotic, humorous stage presence that sits alongside the hard-hitting poetry.
You'll Miss the Sunset is described as equal parts hard-hitting and hopeful, with a good helping of humour. It explores mental health and masculinity while telling the story of what got him through his darkest days. The title comes from a line: 'Don't do that – you'll miss the sunset.'
