Robert White brings his new live comedy show to Komedia on Wednesday 18 November, with the Brighton date presented by Little Wander. It's a mix of songs, stories, stand-up, gags, props, improvisation, interaction and what he calls 'naughty nonsense'—so it's a bit of everything rather than a single format. If you've never seen him, that's a fair place to start.
White first made his name on Britain's Got Talent and has since built up millions of viewers online, so he's well-known beyond the live circuit. Simon Cowell described him as 'very unique, very quirky, very funny, very naughty', and The Telegraph called him 'one of the most original'. The title of the show, THAT Gay Autistic Keyboard Tanktop Comedy Guy!, does a fair bit of the heavy lifting in setting the scene before he even takes the stage.
The set pulls from several different traditions at once. There's the stand-up and the gags, the songs and the stories, and the more spontaneous side of things with improvisation and audience interaction. He also works with props, so it's not just a man and a microphone. The 'naughty nonsense' he mentions suggests the tone leans towards the cheeky side of things, and the keyboard in the title gives you a good idea of how the music fits in.
