A concert by the Regency String Quartet, a British ensemble formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 2021.
The Regency String Quartet play the Corn Exchange at Brighton Dome on Sunday 15 March, starting at 11am. It's a morning concert, so you'll be out by lunchtime. Doors open at 10.15am.
The quartet formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 2021, drawn from scholars at London conservatoires. Between 2021 and 2024 they were supported by the Frost Trust Advanced Specialist Strings Ensemble Training Scheme, and they've picked up a fair few prizes since then: the Royal Academy's Wolfe Wolfinsohn String Quartet Prize, the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Prize, and the Historical Women Composers Prize. In 2025 they won the Royal Overseas League Strings and Keyboard Ensembles category, and they're a 2025/26 Kirckman Concert Society Artist.
They've spent a lot of time working with established names. They've been coached by Alex Redington of the Doric String Quartet and mentored by Jon Thorne, So-Ock Kim and Simon Rowland-Jones. In 2023 they were part of the Academy's Sir Elton John Global Exchange Programme, which took them to Hong Kong for masterclasses with Ida Kavafian and Steven Tenenbom. They've also studied with Kim Kashkashian at the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove and played at the Mill Hill Music Festival and St James's Piccadilly.
