Ratboys

Ratboys play Patterns on Wednesday 9 September, with special guests on the bill. They're a Chicago band, and their sound sits somewhere between power-pop and country — that particular cross of melodic hooks and a bit of twang that works just as well in a small room as it does on record.

They've been putting out music at a steady clip lately. Their most recent release is Singin’ to an Empty Chair, which came out in February 2026, and that followed Light Night Mountains All That in September 2025. Before those, there was Split in February 2024, and The Window in August 2023. That last one is the record they're most known for: they worked with producer Chris Walla on it and tracked it at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studios in Chicago, so it's the one that usually carries the most weight when people talk about them.

Between the new material and the older stuff, there's plenty to pull from for a single set. They've gone from the Albini-recorded The Window through Split and Light Night Mountains All That to Singin’ to an Empty Chair in just over three years, so the set should draw from a fair few different records. The special guests open the night, with Ratboys taking the main slot.
