Evening flat racing meeting at Brighton Racecourse; check venue for exact opening and race times.
Brighton Racecourse is back with a run of flat racing this August and September, with the final date of the stretch falling on Tuesday 1 September. It's an evening meeting, so the racing runs later into the day than your usual afternoon card.
If you're planning to head down, it's worth keeping in mind that this is part of a wider stretch of racing at the course. There's a three-day run of afternoon flat racing from Friday 5 August to Sunday 7 August, so the 1 September evening meeting is the second time the track opens up over the course of a few weeks.
There's a bit of history to the place that's easy to overlook if you've only ever been for a day out. The course first staged an official race in 1783 and soon won the support of King George IV, a royal connection that helped the sport take root in the town. Over the years, racing became woven into the place's identity โ a link Graham Greene famously captured in his novel Brighton Rock. When it's not hosting a race meeting, the course also works as a venue for conferences, entertainment and weddings.
