Afternoon flat racing at the historic Brighton Racecourse, a popular seaside venue for a day out.
Brighton Racecourse is hosting a race meeting on Tuesday 31 August 2027, starting at 18:00. It's an afternoon of flat racing, the kind of thing that works as well for a corporate outing as it does for a day out with friends or family.
If you've never been, the course sits on Whitehawk Hill, about a mile from the coast, and dates back to 1783 when the first official race was held here. It's one of the few British courses without a complete circuit: an undulating, left-handed, horseshoe-shaped turf track of one mile and four furlongs. The start is at the lowest point, the Winning Post at the highest, and there's an uphill climb from two furlongs out, so the horses have to work for it on the run-in. The seaside setting is a big part of the draw, and the course has hosted racing in the presence of royalty over the years. Flat racing runs here from April until October, and the venue hosts other events throughout the year, too. Jim Beavis wrote The Brighton Races about the track.
