The city's first professional oyster-shucking competition to crown the Oyster Queen or King of the Year, held as the closing event of the Brighton Oyster Festival.
Brighton is getting a new addition to its food scene this summer with the launch of the Brighton Oyster Festival. Organised by BITE Sussex, which is a reimagining of the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival, the event runs from 19 to 28 June 2026. Throughout these dates, various venues across the city are participating by offering a set deal priced at £15. This includes a choice of an oyster snack—prepared fresh, tempura, Rockefeller, or Florentine style—paired with a drink, such as a sparkling wine, cocktail, or mocktail.

The festival programme also features a few ticketed charity events. On 25 June, there is an evening titled 'Cocktails and Canapés Under The Sea' held at the SEA LIFE Brighton aquarium. Following that, on 27 June, the Brighton Toy and Model Museum will host 'A Sparkling Sussex Soirée'. These events are part of the wider festival schedule leading up to the final day.
The festival concludes on Sunday, 28 June 2026, with the Professional Oyster-Shucking Competition. This event takes place outside English's of Brighton on East Street during the afternoon. It is the first time the city has hosted a professional competition of this kind, where chefs from across Brighton and Hove will compete to be crowned the 'Oyster Queen or King of the Year'. It is a public, outdoor event, serving as the final gathering for the festival's run.
