Stand-up comedy show by Patrick Monahan, exploring his experiences with immigration and visa issues, at Komedia Studio.
Patrick Monahan brings his stand-up show I'm Not a Terrorist - I'm Freddie Mercury to Komedia Studio on Thursday 25 February 2027. It's a one-man set that takes a pretty heavy subject and works it through a comedic lens, and the title gives you a good sense of where it's heading.
Monahan came to England from Iran in 1980, and he builds the show around the experience of being repeatedly called a terrorist by immigration authorities. He talks through the visa refusals, the extra checks and the restricted access that come with it, and frames the whole thing around that one label. He says he has more in common with Freddie Mercury than with Hezbollah, and sets himself 60 minutes to prove he's not a terrorist.
It's the kind of material that doesn't just rely on the punchline; it's rooted in his own life and the specific, frustrating absurdity of dealing with border control. Critics have called him clever, very funny and hugely likeable, and the show picked up 4.5 stars from One4review.
