An immersive artwork and sensory journey exploring the lives and challenges of artists Indigenous to the Arctic region.
If you are looking for something a bit different to do in Brighton this May, there is an immersive project coming to The Old Market called Of Land, Sea & Sky: Takkuuk. It is essentially a sensory journey that focuses on the lives and challenges of artists who are Indigenous to the Arctic region. The project is a collaboration involving BICEP (Andy Ferguson and Matthew McBriar), visual artist Zak Norman, and filmmaker Charlie Miller, alongside a collective of Indigenous vocalists including Katarina Barruk, Andachan, Sebastian Enequist, Tarrak, Nuija, Niilas, and Silla. The soundtrack for this piece was recorded back in 2024 by producer Matthew Dear while he was in Iceland for the Iceland Airwaves festival.

The experience is designed to explore themes of landscape, voice, and resilience through sound and visuals. It is part of the broader 'Of Land, Sea and Sky' series hosted at The Old Market. The event runs from Tuesday, 19 May, through to Saturday, 23 May 2026. Because the schedule changes depending on the day, it is worth noting the specific times: on Tuesday, 19 May, sessions are at 18:00 and 19:30. On Wednesday, 20 May, and Thursday, 21 May, there are sessions at 18:00, 19:30, and 21:00. The schedule shifts for the weekend, with sessions on Friday, 22 May, at 10:00 and 12:00, and on Saturday, 23 May, at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, and 18:00.
Tickets are priced at £15.00. The event is open to all ages, though it is worth keeping in mind that anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult. It is an interesting setup if you are interested in how sound can be used as a tool for connection and empathy, or if you are simply curious about the specific cultural perspectives being presented by the collective of artists involved. It is a straightforward, focused exhibition that offers a specific look at the Arctic region through a blend of art and audio.
