The programme for this performance includes Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 131, a piece often noted for its complexity. Alongside this, they will play Entr'acte by the American composer Caroline Shaw. This piece is inspired by Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 77 no. 2. The quartet members have described this work as a way to approach contemporary music, noting that while it may seem simple on the surface, it contains a range of harmonies and colours. It is an interesting contrast to the Beethoven piece, offering a look at how modern composers engage with classical structures.
The venue, the Brighton Dome, is located on Church Street, Brighton, BN1 1UE. It is a Grade 1 listed building that was originally built as royal stables in 1803 before being converted into a concert hall in 1867. Tickets are priced at ÂŁ10.00 for the general public, with the same price available for those under 30. There is a ÂŁ3.50 booking fee for online or phone reservations, though this does not apply to members of the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival. The event is open to anyone over the age of 5, though please note that children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
