A nature writing workshop led by Dr Craig Jordan-Baker, focusing on landscape, nature, and sensory writing through exercises and guided walks.
If you have been looking for a way to slow down and engage more deeply with your surroundings, there is a nature writing workshop coming up in Brighton on Saturday, 16 May 2026. The session is led by Dr Craig Jordan-Baker, who is a writer and a senior lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Brighton. It is scheduled to run from 11:00 to 13:00, offering a focused window of time to step away from the usual pace of the weekend and concentrate on observation.

The workshop is designed to encourage participants to pay closer attention to the landscape, the natural world, and the sensory details that often go unnoticed in daily life. The structure is quite practical: it combines simple writing exercises with a walk around the plot, where Craig will use literary examples to help guide your writing process. There is also dedicated time built into the two hours for personal writing and the opportunity to share your work with the rest of the group if you feel comfortable doing so.
Regarding the logistics, the session is limited to 15 people, which keeps the group size manageable for this kind of activity. To attend, you need to be a member of Plot 22. If you are not already a member, the registration process is straightforward and free of charge. The cost for the workshop itself is £20. It is a good option if you are interested in creative writing and want to explore how to translate the natural environment into words, guided by someone with an academic background in the field.
